Paint Shop Pro Basics
Merge Layers and
Export as JPEG
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This tutorial was written and graphics used were created by
Cathie for PSP Times Three.
This tutorial will explain how to merge layers. When working
with graphics, you may find you have at least 2 layers. One
has your image and the other has the color of your background.
We will also cover how to export your graphic as a JPEG.
Let's begin:
If you want to work along with this tutorial please
do the following:
1. Create a new Image. - You should know how to do this
2. Add a new layer. You should know how to do this
3. Place a transparent image (tube or psp image) on the top layer. Again, you should know how to do this. You may add any effects you like but not necessary.
4. Go to bottom layer and flood fill with a background color.
This is what your layer palette should look like:
5. Now, highlight that top layer as shown in the above
shot.
6. Go to your top bar and click on "Layers".
7. Then go down the list to "Merge"
8. Then across and down to "Merge Visable"
See this screenshot as a reference:
9. Now look at your layer palette again and
you should see everything is on one layer like
this:
You have now learned how to merge layers!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now it is time to export your finished graphic
and save it as a JPEG.
1. Go to top bar again and click on "File"
2. Down the list to "Export"
3. Across to JPEG Optimizer
Use this shot as a guide:
4. A screen box pops up - (shown below).
5. Set your Compression Value between 10 and 15.
Do not set it higher than 15 because it will
only distort the clarity of your graphic. The
higher the value the more compressed the graphic
will be but you will have less quality.
Look at this shot as a guide:
6. When satisfied, click OK and a file box
will appear. Save to your folder of choice.
Any similarities to other tutorials is merely a coincidence.
